Behavioral optometry is a complementary practice that is still little used in Europe. Yet, this practice has a long history, with one such method being invented by French musician Georges Quertant (1894–1964) in the 1930s. In this article, we present the work of this vision rehabilitation specialist, showing how his practice can be linked a posteriori to the American behavioral optometry movement of the same period. We will demonstrate the parallels between these two rehabilitation methods, methods that are based on theoretical convergences that continue to evolve within the field of the cognitive neuroscience of vision, and which also incorporate elements of visual and cognitive rehabilitation.
