Field mint - Mentha arvensis
Distilled field mint is one of the key ingredients in a range of products widely used in cosmetics, perfumery, food, and health care. The literature abounds with illustrations and scattered data on the health benefits of this Lamiaceae or its majority compound, mint crystals and menthol, whose quality varies greatly across these industries. In light of certain shortcomings—notably in the classification of molecular families, on the one hand, and the possible confusion between certain borderline products (such as dietary supplements, health products, or cosmetics), on the other, as well as the health risks of these extracts with their many claimed therapeutic benefits—consumers must have access to high-quality information in order to make informed decisions. The authors of this article have therefore sought to make a modest contribution by compiling, in the form of data sheets, practical examples of possible uses and the current state of knowledge.
