Eco-anxiety: My Earth hurts, or a return to the survival instinct

It’s hard to remain calm when faced with recurring climatic catastrophes and the loss of human life they entail. Eco-anxiety is emerging as an anxiety syndrome in its own right, in view of recent and future environmental upheavals. The authors who analyzed the symptoms of eco-anxiety from a clinical point of view in a previous article in the HEGEL journal share their more general reflections on environmentally harmful human behavior, and revisit the "states of emergency of the survival instinct" formalized by Henri Laborit (1).
